Maryland firefighter rescued after falling from roof into the basement of burning home.

Just before 3:00 am this morning, the Susquehanna Hose Company (SHCO) was dispatched to a reported house fire in the 1300 block of N Stepney Road.

Crews from Aberdeen Fire Department were first on scene with fire showing from the one-story single family dwelling and transmitted a Working Fire Dispatch, according to a post on SOCO’s Facebaook page.

As Susquehanna Hose Company firefighters arrived on scene, they were instructed by command to report to the interior and begin opening up to assist in fire attack.

Just before 4:30, and after the bulk of the fire had been knocked, a mayday was transmitted with the report of a fireman falling through the floor and into the basement. The Rapid Intervention Team quickly began operating and was able to remove the fireman from the rear of the home, where he later denied injury and refused transport by EMS.

Crews then transitioned to a defensive posture and finished knocking hot spots from the exterior. SHCO crews continued working until 7:30 before returning to Havre de Grace.
