Man Killed When Tree Falls On Him In Hartland, Vermont

On February 4, 2019, at approximately 10:47 in the morning, the Vermont State Police in Royalton received a report of a 71-year-old male, who was reportedly found pinned under a tree in a wooded area off of Garvin Hill Rd. in the Town of Hartland, VT.

Woodstock Fire and Ambulance responded to the scene and pronounced the male victim deceased.

Detectives from the Vermont State Police responded and investigated the incident. From the investigation, they learned that the victim was logging alone on the property.

When a friend of the victim was unable to reach him he went to the logging site and discovered him unresponsive under a tree he had felled.

The victim’s body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The cause of death remains under investigation pending the autopsy report. Officials said The death is not suspicious and appears to be accidental.
The man’s name is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
